Dr. Jude Odinkonigbo
Dr. Jude Odinkonigbo is a seasoned legal and tax professional with over twenty-five (25) years of extensive cognate experience in legal and tax academia, public administration, and commercial legal practice. His legal expertise cuts across taxation; white collar defence and compliance; intellectual property; data protection services; labour, employment, and immigration services; government and regulatory services; and litigation, commercial disputes resolution, and risk management services.
Prior to joining Phoenix Attorneys as Managing Partner, Jude was a Partner in the Tax & Commercial Disputes Resolution practice of Ikeyi Shittu & Co., a commercial law firm in Nigeria. He is also an Associate Professor in Taxation and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Nigeria, where he served as the Head of the Department of Property Law for three terms and currently serves as the Coordinator of the University of Nigeria Legal Services Department. He was recently a Counsel in the Investigations, White Collar Defence & Compliance, and Tax & Commercial Disputes Resolution practices of Templars – a leading commercial law firm in Nigeria. Jude has also been a Partner and the Head of Tax, Transfer Pricing, and Intellectual Property practices at Alliance Law Firm in Nigeria. He also had an early career stint at Olaniwun Ajayi LP, one of Nigeria’s leading full-service commercial law firms.
Jude routinely advises a broad range of local and international clients on transactional, regulatory, corporate, and tax-related issues. His previous experience includes consulting for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), and several States’ Board of Internal Revenue Service in Nigeria. He also had an engaging stint as the Acting Manager of Law Reform at the Department of Environment & Labour of the Government of Nova Scotia in Canada. He is recognized as a Notable Practitioner in the IFLR 1000 guide to the world’s leading financial and corporate law firms.
Jude holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Taxation Law & Policy from the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in Canada. He also holds two Master of Laws (LLM) degrees in International Tax Law from the Yale Law School of Yale University in the United States of America and in Intellectual Property Law from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in Canada. Jude further holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the Enugu State University of Science & Technology in Nigeria, where he emerged the Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Law. Jude is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), where he served as the Dean of Tax of the NBA Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) for a period of three (3) years. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICA) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
